Players can pass through Necron and Heretek limbs alike with the Transonic Blades of the Ruststalker or take the stealthy route with the Infiltrators and spring an unexpected ambush. Two new troops are available to unlock: Sicarian Infiltrators and Ruststalkers. Heretek also introduces new weapons for players to discover, including xeno-altered weapons that open up devastating possibilities, coupled with support tech that opens up new play styles. The choices players make will impact the battle for that mission.

Additionally, there are five new missions based in the Ark Mechanicus, each with a new delivery system for narrative. The expansion also offers all-new augments for players to customize the appearance of their Tech-Priest. One of the new features in Heretek is the Xenarite discipline, which is specialized in using xenotech, a largely forbidden practice for those who follow the Omnissiah. This expansion offers a new plotline that explores the heretek Tech-Priests, who have changed their beliefs and pose a new threat to the Adeptus Mechanicus. In Heretek, players take on the role of Magos Dominus Faustinius, who must manage an assault on the Necrons while also dealing with an internal conflict among fellow Tech-Priests who have forsaken the name of the Omnissiah. With brand new narrative events crafted by Ben Counter, players can uncover what has brought civil unrest to The Caestus Metalican during its campaign at Silva Tenebris.
